The Crow’s Nest Suite vacation rental is secretly perched on the 2nd floor where you’ll enjoy plenty of privacy and a ‘bird’s eye view.’ From your own private covered back porch overlooking the treetops, you’d never know you’re right downtown Old Town Key West near the famous Key West harbor. Historic Front Street on the waterfront and numerous famous attractions including the Mallory Square Sunset Celebration, Custom House Museum, and Mel Fisher Treasure Museum are just down the street. And, Sloppy Joe’s Bar, made famous by Ernest Hemingway, is literally just around the corner. But at the same time, the Crow’s Nest Suite is off the ‘main drag’ … just enough to offer a break from the action and a welcome night sleep. When you compare these rates with the expensive hotels just around the corner, you’ll know you’ve found a fantastic deal!
The Crow’s Nest Suite vacation rental was recently renovated and newly furnished. It’s comprised of one-half of the entire 2nd floor (or a full one-quarter) of our 2-story Key West Quarter House. Crow’s Nest provides a full 600 square feet of private interior living space and it has its own private covered back porch adjoining the bedroom.
Interior Layout:
The front entrance to this suite leads from the 2nd floor front porch directly to the living room/ kitchen which encompasses about two-thirds of the interior. The bedroom and bathroom are at the back of the suite, and the adjoining private covered back porch provides a small private outdoor living space. When the suite was renovated, the ceiling of the living room / kitchen was fit tight to the roof-line which gives it an uplifting and spacious feel. Kitchen cabinetry has a dark wood-grain finish and is topped with contrasting cream colored tiles. Sleek black kitchen appliances compliment the cabinetry and tile work and the look is handsome and contemporary.
The builder added a multi-level ‘supper bar,’ to separate the kitchen from the living room and to create a built-in dining area. Four round black leather counter stools finish the setting and provide ample room for eating in. Walls are painted vanilla-white and make a neutral backdrop for the comfortable ice-blue sleeper sofa and multi-colored striped slipper chairs. Light bamboo wood floors span the entire space and are carried all the way into the bedroom. A 36 inch flat-screen TV is mounted on the living room wall for easy viewing from the living room and kitchen.
Located at the back of the suite, the spacious bedroom in Crow’s Nest Suite adjoins the private back balcony overlooking the tree tops. The basic contemporary bedroom décor is blended with some tropical furnishings, and provides a king size bed, large closet, wooden end tables and reading lamps on either side of the bed. Walls are painted the same vanilla-cream color as the front of the suite. The full bathroom has a bath tub and in-tub shower, updated with a single vanity sink and large wood framed vanity mirror.
Exterior:
You can’t measure the interior quality of the Crow’s Nest suite from the unpretentious façade of the building where it resides. Painted a slate grey and trimmed in white, the unmistakable conch vernacular architecture has been adorned with some gingerbread railings and privacy lattice work. It seems to blend so well into it neighborhood, it’s easy to drive by and not even take notice of it, except for the Conch Republic flag that it proudly waves.
SWIMMING POOL NOTE: If you have your heart set on lounging around a swimming pool, Dante's Key West is close by at 951 Caroline Street. Dante’s is a beautiful resort-style pool-bar restaurant right on the Key West Harbor Walk. The swimming pool, open from 11 am til 7 pm, is large and immaculately kept and you are welcome to use the pool with the purchase of a drink or food. The scene is casually elegant and offers a real taste of the Key West “resort life” without the expensive cost of renting a luxury hotel.
