A casual sophistication permeates every room of this lovely island garden home. Nicely nestled in a small gated community in the heart of Old Town Key West, the thoughtfully designed two-story floor plan, make this Island Modern Colonial vacation rental an inviting home-away-from-home. Elegant soft-tone textured furnishings are the perfect compliment that entice you to kick-back and relax, making it easy to fall into the groove of island time.
This 2-story Key West cottage layout is designed with the common rooms on the first floor, and two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms on the second floor. Inspired from historic floor plans, everything about the style makes island living easy. When you enter the house you step into the entrance hall and face the colonial-style oak stair case that leads to the second floor. Your eye is immediately drawn to the right of the house, where you find the living-room/dining /kitchen. The open horse-shoe-shaped floor plan, high ceilings topped with wide crown molding, wainscoting, and recessed lighting make this great-room feel even more spacious than it is. Multiple sets of wooden sash windows set with custom wooden shutters allow you to invite in the sunlight. Sunny yellow walls painted faux style and white wainscoting finish the feeling of understated elegance throughout the house, and cream colored floor tiles keep the tropical mood light and airy.
If you plan to cook, the designer kitchen is made elegant with custom colonial style wood cabinets, gorgeous thick granite counter tops, and top-of-line stainless steel appliances. A featured piano-shaped kitchen island, topped with granite and faced with exotic wood, is set in the middle of the room and serves as a divider between the kitchen and dining area. This island houses the kitchen sink on one end near the stove, and has stool seating on the other end so you can perch yourself and sip wine and watch the cook create. A round glass topped dining table on marble pedestal base is placed between the living room grouping and the kitchen, and a half-bath is conveniently set to the left of the kitchen.
The stair case to the second floor leads to the two bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bath. The cheerful yellow and white color theme and wainscoting is carried to the 2nd floor. Windows and closets are trimmed with gingerbread molding, and mirrored bi-fold closet doors add space and light to the bedrooms. The split-floor plan, with the bedrooms are on either side of the house, creates maximum privacy.
At the top of the stairs the laundry closet is set in the hallway, conveniently in between the two bedrooms. The bedroom to the right has two twin beds which can be made up as a king at your request. Cream colored cottage style furniture and a chandelier appoint this room. The en-suite bathroom is luxurious and provides a whirlpool bathtub. The bedroom to the left of the stairs offers queen size bed. Light wood colonial style bedroom furniture includes a stately head and foot board and matching furniture. A pretty chandelier hangs from the ceiling directly over the bed. The elegant en-suite bathroom for the queen bedroom has a double sized walk-in tiled shower with frameless glass doors.
Grounds: Back downstairs, a double set of French doors lead from the living room to the private pool, deck, and fenced in garden. Classy outdoor teak furniture, including a large table and chairs with umbrella, set the stage for outdoor dining and chaises for sunning.
The front porch is an important feature of classic Key West architecture, and this house is a common contemporary interpretation. The quintessential white picket fence leads to the porch adorned with capital posts and white railing. The exterior house walls are painted a traditional Caribbean turquoise with white trim and dark green window shutters and front door, and the porch ceiling is painted in the historic sky blue. The owners have appointed the front porch with two wooden white rocking chairs. The front door is punctuated with an artful brass door-knocker in the shape of a golden tree frog.
The location in the small gated garden compound adds a feeling of exclusivity. Entrance to the compound is through a pretty covered garden gate that adds style and creates added security for the house. A parking lot at the entrance provides off-street parking for one car.
