Key West sunsets are famous, and so remarkably spectacular that each-and-every-day of the year, hundreds of people gather at the Mallory Square dock in Key West to celebrate the days end. As the sun slowly ‘sinks into the sea’, the Key West Sunset Celebration festivities rev up, and every island visitor should make a point to enjoy the entertainment with the rest of the crowd. But it’s also nice to celebrate sunset in private. Holding a perfect perch overlooking the entrance to the Key West Harbor, this spacious luxury condominium is situated in a revered waterfront position in Old Town Key West’s up-scale gated community named “Truman Annex”. This historic neighborhood, named after the late President Harry Truman, houses “The Little White House” where the president often stayed in the winter months during his term in office. In fact, our fashionable condominium described on this web page, “Private Key West Sunset,” is situated directly in front of “The Little White House”. 

In juxtaposition with Truman’s historic residence, the architectural design of the condominium is strikingly modern.  Standing strong on the waterfront, this large white concrete structure has impressive lines mimicking a grand ocean-going liner at first glance. Situated as it is near the edge of the quay it’s easy to pretend you are at sea while you gaze out the window of this spacious condominium, and since it’s positioned as an end-corner unit, you have the opportunity to enjoy the unique waterfront view from the living room kitchen area and all 3 bedrooms!  

Interior Layout:  

Located on the 3rd level, “Private Key West Sunset”, is accessed by elevator from the ground floor in the covered parking area where you have a reserved parking space.  When the elevator door opens, the unit is just a few steps away.  The front door leads inside to a small open entrance area where you immediately capture a stunning view of the waters edge.  Immediately to your right you find the fully equipped large galley-style kitchen that sports a fanciful cream and white ‘checker-board’ tile floor, a full bank of upper and lower cabinets and a breakfast bar that opens to the living room.  Perfectly set for entertaining, the cook has full view of the living room, and of course, the turquoise sea.  

Straight ahead from the entrance, is the spacious living room and dining room area with full open view of the quay, and large attached private balcony where you’ll catch your private sunset. The fun loving newly designed interior décor is colorful, fanciful, and entertaining and was completely redone in 2009.  Enjoy the detail on the artistic sea-horse chandelier above the dining table with crystal beads and tiny rainbow shades, and you’re sure to get a chuckle at the parrot art that warns ‘Paradise ain’t Cheap’.  New living room furnishings are contemporary tropical style of braided water hyacinth and rattan with and fabric done in tropical stripes and pink flamingos.  

The bedrooms and bathrooms are located off either side of the living room area.  There are two ‘master’ suites for this condominium, on opposite ends of the unit. Facing the water, turn right (past the kitchen) and you find the larger master suite. Shown on in our slide show with pink flamingo fabric chaise with matching art work over the king sized bed, this luxurious room enjoys window views of the water on two sides and it’s own private en-suite bathroom. 

To find the second master suite, turn left at the entrance hall and proceed to the end of the hall on the right.  Shown in our slide show with key-lime green walls and a king size bed with green and yellow plaid bedspread, this suite is a bit smaller than the other master suite, but nonetheless, it commands water views on two sides and offers a full private en-suite bathroom. 

The third bedroom is found off the hall, with entrances off the hall and living room.  In our slide show you can see that this bedroom provides two twin size beds, a twin set of green tropical print barrel chairs, and again, a great view of the water.  The bathroom for this bedroom is found just outside the door off the hall. 

Exterior and Grounds:  

The expansive outside tiled deck off the living room is a focal point for this property.  A favorite spot for morning coffee and private sunset viewing, your deck also provides a personal birds-eye view of the cruise ships that dock at the ‘outer mole’. While the cruise ships are not a daily event, when they do come in it’s entertaining to observe the ships from your own private deck so we made a point to photograph this property while the ships were in port. 

If sun bathing is on your vacation agenda, the large resort-style swimming pool for this condominium is found just off the quay so that when you’re swimming and sunbathing you can continue to enjoy your view of the water. The swimming pool scene is unmistakably tropical with palm trees and bromileads framed by sky and the sea and there are plenty of lounge chairs placed around the pool. Another wonderful feature of this residence is a covered private designated parking space which is located just beneath the building where this condominium is located.

  
The ‘Truman Annex’ complex is accessed at a gatehouse on Southard Street, just past Whitehead Street. Once inside the complex, the feeling is unmistakably upscale as you experience the exquisitely landscaped grounds that are manicured to story-book perfection.  Freshly painted white picket fences line the neighborhood that holds a beautiful variety of Key West architecture.  Original military officer’s homes displaying classic Greek Revival architectural styles, have been renovated into large private luxury mansions, and newer versions of the Key West ‘conch-style’ Victorian have been added to the variety over the years. Since this is a private gated community, there is hardly any auto traffic making it a delightful neighborhood to walk and bicycle. From here you are just a few minutes walk to Duval St. and the center of downtown Old Town Key West. Green grounds, brick buildings, and garden fountains create an impressive back drop for a stroll around this unique upscale neighborhood. Just inside the gate on Southard Street, proceed towards the ocean and you’ll find Fort Zachary Taylor, now a State Park with one of the nicest beaches on Key West.  

This property is offered as an exclusive vacation rental in Old Town Key West. The property will not tolerate smoking inside. The property is located in a private gated residential complex and is definitely not suitable for staging loud parties. Only well behaved children are welcome. This property is not "child-proof". We do not accept guests less than 25 years of age unless accompanied by a family group or guardian.  

Amenities: Heated resort-style swimming pool, perfectly manicured tropical landscaping, private balcony, ully equipped kitchen. Central A/C, washer / dryer, flat screen TV’s, C/D player and stereo. Linens and towels are provided.  

Parking: This condominium has private designated covered off-street parking. However, from here you really never need to get in your car. Enjoy walking or biking everywhere you'll see more that way.
