I never grow tired of touring the Old Town Key West homes, taking in the creative chroma that infuses the neighborhoods with imagination and energy. Nestled in a small gated pool-garden community, the exclusive town-home setting epitomizes the Key West tropical life-style. Completely hidden from the thoroughfare, you would never know it is in the heart of Old Town Key West, less than one block from Duval Street. Step through the wooden French-doors from the private parking lot, and on the right of the swimming pool, you’ll recognize this home by the shades of blue. Painted in contrast to the lush landscaping, a display of exotic trees and shrubs border the front porch, and flow around to the spacious side deck. The covered front porch is thoughtfully situated to enjoy a view of the swimming pool, but also set back far enough so you can find your personal space.
Downstairs - We begin at the front porch entrance that steps directly into the great-room. Painted in garden-green, the entire space is energizing and calming at once, while sophisticated furnishings in black, white, glass, and honey-tone rattan make a statement of luxury. Sash windows and two sets of French doors give views of the gardens and swimming pool and bring in the sunlight. Natural wood floors make the room feel grounded to the earth and connected to gardens outside.
The open-concept room stages the living room grouping at one end of the house, nearest to the front entrance. A sofa with two easy chairs, are nicely placed for relaxed conversation, and a 50 inch TV and DVD player are ready to provide on-demand entertainment. Exotic parrot table lamps are a playful reminder that you are, after all, on the island where Margaritaville was born.
The fully equipped kitchen is at the back of the house. A U-shape design places high-end stainless-steel appliances, space-saver microwave, black granite counters, and slate floor tiles, along the back and side walls. An elegant counter height bar makes it easy to casually serve-up food and drinks.
A glass-top dining table with six rattan chairs, is placed between the kitchen and the living room. And when you’re ready to set-up for a cocktail or glass of wine, a deluxe built-in bar spans 12 feet along the wall. Black cabinetry set against the green walls, glass shelving, and back-lit mirrors literally ‘raise the bar’ of the entire great-room.
The ritzy beauty of the bar is further enhanced with a full-length mirror, set between the French doors on the opposite wall. These doors seamlessly connect the great-room with a spacious outside deck, setting the tone for relaxed tropical living and hospitality. With a snack and libation in hand, step outside - being in a garden is one of the best ways to relax.
Before we go upstairs, let’s consider the downstairs bathroom. Accessed through the door between the kitchen and built-in bar, the location of this bath makes it convenient after a session at the pool. Décor carries in the green walls and adds more earth tones with refined design touches including a stone-tile shower, and hammered metal sink.
Upstairs – The stairway to the 2nd floor is located immediately inside the front door entrance. Upstairs we find the two bedrooms, and the second bathroom. Here, we’re treated to colors of calming blue trimmed in white. Hardwood floors in the bedrooms, continue the natural ambiance experienced downstairs.
The master bedroom, providing a king size bed with ceiling fan overhead, is at the back of the house. A large flat-screen TV is placed on the dresser across from the foot of the bed. Honey-tone rattan furnishings, with white marble granite tops, look perfect against the blue backdrop. A unique feature is a two-legged ceramic pedestal sink and round mirror above it. Set in a little alcove next to a closet, it creates a lovely wet-vanity table, with the spindle legs adding a Victorian flare to the room.
Stepping back into the hall, the entrance to the second bedroom is on the opposite side of the house, overlooking the pool. Done-up in the same blue and white colors as the master bedroom, it provides two twin beds. These are easily pushed together to make a king size bed, as they are shown in our slide show. Classic white cottage-style furniture and black iron headboards are in pretty contrast with the blue walls. There is plenty of room for clothes storage with dresser drawers and a closet. There is also a flat screen TV and a ceiling fan.
The upstairs bathroom is situated in the middle of the hall, just steps from each bedroom door. Consistent with the upscale design of rest of the house, it is sophisticated and polished. An oversized shower with travertine marble tile and frameless glass doors is on the left side wall as you enter. A designer glass and granite vanity is on the opposite side, featuring a clear glass vessel-sink with a nickle-plated water-pump style faucet. Mirrors wrap around the vanity with Hollywood lights above, and a skylight brings in the natural light.

Area: The center district of Old Town Key West is the "residential heart" and the pulse of the island, with Truman Avenue going straight down the middle of it. Historic streets are lined with more and more wooden Victorian homes and cottages built by early ship builders and men of wealth, and more modern interpretations, like this property, are inspired by the historic builders. Ernest Hemmingway lived in this neighborhood and his home is now a museum open to the public.
Parking: This home has private designated off-street parking for one car. However, with this central location you won’t often need to get in your car. Enjoy walking or biking everywhere - you'll see more that way.
Restrictions: Month minimum rental. Smoke free house. No pets (please don't ask). The property is located in a private residential townhouse complex and is definitely not suitable for staging loud parties. Maximum of 4 guests allowed. We do not accept guests less than 25 years of age unless accompanied by a family group or guardian.
