Authentic "old-world" charm meets modern tropical luxury in this wonderful historic island home. The Abaco Dreams Key West vacation rental is built of original glistening clear heart pine from floor to 12 foot ceiling, and the interior rooms radiate a warm and magical feel that would be nearly impossible to replicate by modern builders. Built in one of the most long-lived and well loved styles of American architecture this romantic Key West vacation rental house displays classic lines of renaissance-inspired symmetry. Deep spacious living and bedrooms off a wide center hall, high ceilings, detailing with classical white capital-topped columns, transom door lights at the front entrance, and a side-gable roof all suggest this home it is one of the islands few American-Georgian colonial style homes.
The owner was directly involved in renovating the home and participated in the admirable task of uncovering and refinishing the original heart pine walls and floors. To offset the beauty of the wood he added a beautiful collection of art work including original black and white photographs of the Florida Keys and an original stunning piece of butterfly art from The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory. Another special feature I love about this home is the retro black cast iron and porcelain claw foot tub selected for the master bathroom. Perched on elegant silver painted fan-leaf feet, the tub is a perfect contrast to the custom Aztec patterned black and white tile floor. An elegant canopy rain shower fixture is beautifully framed with a clear glass shower enclosure making the bathroom artful in and of itself.
Interior Layout: The historic floor plan has been preserved for the most part, with the exception of additions to the back of the house to meet the modern island lifestyle of "bringing the tropical outdoors inside." As you face the front of the house the layout is as follows. The front door entrance leads to a wide center hall that leads all the way to the back of the house. The high ceilings make the hall feel grand and its extra width invites it to also serve as a long spacious sitting room.
Facing the Abaco Dreams vacation home, we start our tour from the left front side. The first room is the original 'front room' which is now set as a comfortable sitting room ideal for reading, perhaps playing a board or card game, and can also function nicely as a remote office area. This front room is open to the spacious dining room and flows directly into the dining area via a high square arch built as colonial style columns. The dining room is furnished with a glass topped table large enough for everyone to sit together and enjoy a meal. The dining room flows to the next room back on the left, the spacious kitchen which has been nicely restyled for easy cooking with plenty of counter top space. Directly off the kitchen, through a closing door, is a spacious laundry room complete with washer and dryer.
Going back to the front of the house, facing it from the right side, the first room is the front bedroom. This is a spacious room with an attractive decor and offers two twin beds. The next room down the hall to the right is the master bathroom which features the elegant cast iron claw foot tub described above. In addition to the artistic bath tub, the master bathroom has a beautiful oversized vintage style free-standing porcelain sink. This bathroom has two entrances and can be accessed from the hall as well as the master bedroom.
Continuing down the hall, the next room on the right is the spacious master bedroom which offers a queen size bed. This bedroom has a set of double French doors that open to the side yard and serve as a great source to invite in the morning sunshine.
Now proceeding all the way down the hall to the back of the house, and spanning three quarters of the width of the house, is the spacious family room / den area. This room was added during the renovation of the home extending the length of the house and placing three sets of double French doors that lead to a spacious deck and 40 foot free-form heated swimming pool. The remaining one-quarter of the width of the back, and just off the left of this family room is the 2nd bathroom. This bathroom has a full shower with frameless clear glass door and free-standing sink and is easily accessed from the next room, the 3rd bedroom.
The last room is the 3rd bedroom which offers a full size (double) platform bed and an added feature of a small free-standing artistic sink. This charming bedroom is located in an adorable intimate 'pool side' cottage directly off the back deck just outside the French doors on the left. This adjacent location creates an extra private "secret" bedroom with its own set of French doors offering a beautiful view of the swimming pool and a quick escape for a private early morning dip in the pool. Lush landscaping of a variety of tropical palms and an impressive stand of giant bamboo ensure plenty of outdoor privacy.
