Not so little boys and their very expensive toys,
Show the measure of a man in the things he enjoys…
When November comes around in Key West, the fastest ocean going water toys are gathered together for the big race. At over 100 miles per hour the highly skilled drivers put on an amazing performance as they crash wave-to-wave constantly aware of the freakish stuff which can end their race if not their lives. As the 3000 plus horsepower machines, and their low flying chasing helicopters, scream by right next to shore, you can’t help but feel the danger and excitement from any vantage point.
The Key West World Offshore Championship Power Boat Races captures the excitement of the life and death, man versus sea confrontation like no other spectator event. The intoxicating speed and power of these sleek machines are always challenged by the unpredictable weather conditions of the Key West Harbor and off-shore waters. While huge advances in the safety equipment have been made, the prospect of injury and death is ever present for these power racers.
