Bench overlooking Zachary Taylor State Park. Stay with Vacation Homes of Key West. Fort Zachary Taylor is a historic fort dating back to the civil war where visitors can enjoy many outdoor activities. Exploring the grounds of the old fort with a camera is a great way to spend an afternoon. The grounds provide many a photo op, with interesting sites including a mote and museum of historic artifacts such as cannonballs.  After climbing up the spiral brick staircase, you will find a rooftop area overlooking the Key West harbor. This vantage point provides a wonderful view of this side of the island, as well as the charter boats coming up and down the channel. The rocks and coral just off the beach offer great snorkeling. The beach and surrounding grounds of the park give visitors a chance to take in the open space and shaded tree cover that is hard to find anywhere else in Key West. Take the kids and have lunch at a picnic bench overlooking the ocean, or come alone for a peaceful breakfast on the sand.
