Imagine the ultimate Key West dream home on a private island surrounded by sparkling turquoise waters and balmy breezes. Someplace elegant yet relaxed, where you can watch crowning tropical sunsets from a private rooftop lookout deck. How does it make you feel? Charmed? Pampered? Relaxed? Playful? This Sunset Sojourn luxury Key West vacation rental, located on exclusive Sunset Key, meets every aspect of a fantasy island destination.
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in a Key West rental for a month or more, you’ve experienced how renewing these tropical sojourns can be. An island paradise where you disconnect from the daily routine, suspending the humdrum of the ordinary. Interesting people, whimsical sights, and landmark historic architecture. International cuisine, and more bars and musical entertainment per capita than most vacation paradise island destinations. With all of this, what could take a fantasy escape over the top?
Getting There: ‘Exclusive is never normal,’ and in this case it’s the way you arrive to this special Key West island destination. A 500-yard Ferry boat ride, for guests only, transports you just far enough away from the ‘best of the bustle’ in Old Town, to the dock at Sunset Key. The short-but-sweet 5-minute boat ride transports you every 30 minutes and it places this private island in a caliber of preeminence.
Our tour begins when the ferry arrives at the dock on Sunset Key. There is an air of distinction as soon as you land and step onto the iconic boat house dock. Private crescent shaped beaches and coconut palms create an impressive entry point at the shore. Past the dock, a brick path leads to a classic island-colonial style building. It is here where you find reception, resort amenities, and the Latitudes Restaurant and bar.
To reach the Key West Sunset Sojourn vacation rental, we pass the resort reception, and follow the pathways to the opposite end of the island. There are no cars on is this little island, which heightens the faraway beach ambiance of lapping seas, sea birds, and rustling palm fronds.
The Grounds:
Follow the brick roadway, through the Sunset Key neighborhood past beautiful Key West cottage-style homes, framed with tropical landscaping and white picket fences. When you arrive at the Sunset Sojourn house, enter the property through the front gate. Beyond the gate, aged brick pavers hardscape the grounds, keeping it sleek and uncluttered. Follow the path to the elegant entertainment portico. Built along the side of the house, white beams with gingerbread trim, yellow beadboard ceiling, marble tile and a full size wet-bar complete this cottage-style indoor-outdoor room. The portico then seamlessly extends to a spacious covered porch that wraps around the entire side and back of the house.
Step down from the covered porch where more brick pavers wrap around the swimming pool. From this vantage point, notice how the home maximizes indoor-outdoor living with 1st and 2nd floor covered porches. Multiple sets of single-pane French doors on both levels, assure easy access to the porches throughout the house. Comfortable and stylish outdoor furnishings make it easy to relax outside and look out over the gardens and lounge by the swimming pool. The crowning touch is a covered roof top look-out tower, stylized in homage to the traditional ‘widows walk.’ From this spot, you’ll enjoy many evenings of famous Key West sunsets.
Interior Layout:
Throughout the interior, the designer created an ambience of understated elegance, befitting the stature of Sunset Key. Evoking a distinctive ‘Tommy Bahama’ feel, tropical furnishings throughout are casual yet sophisticated-done in soft Caribbean earth tones, wicker, wood, and bamboo. Wall colors of sunshine yellow are trimmed with bright white crown molding throughout. “Our stay was great. Sunset Key is a special vacation spot for us. Look forward to returning soon.
“Everything was absolutely flawless and our family really enjoyed our selves can’t wait until next year.
“We have rented this house from Bill Pullman for years and his improvements were much appreciated. Everything was good, however I was not aware it was going to be available for showings. No problem, we had 2 showings durning the month, just wonder if there is unlimited times that might occur. Just asking, not a complaint. Thanks Dick
